A busy and tranquil place. Heavy loud traffic and the bustle of people in the downtown shopping district to the tranquil historic cemetery. A two-train station day with a walk in the calming farmlands. Terre Rouge supplies a contrast with all it has to offer.
Pointe Aux Piments Mauritius or Chilli Point is so relaxing I started calling it Chill Point. The endless beach views and relaxed snack shops simply put you in the mood to sit and admire the view. Clustered with all-inclusive resorts, you can still find history, a beautiful old sugar mill chimney, and 5 lime kilns.
Camp De Masque Mauritius is a great day out that makes you happy. From the giant pineapple to the abundant street foods and welcoming locals, this is a village that makes you happy. A stroll around the huge La Unity chimney, walking the back streets, eating on the street, looking at the mountains, or exploring the dirt roads for greenhouses is all in this great day out.
La Laura Mauritius is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The garden village in the garden district, nature at it’s best. But there is more, ancient bridges, golden temples, the best village sign ever and the beautiful mountains.
In the Central North East of Mauritius is a trio of smaller villages that encompass Petite Retraite, Bois d’Oiseaux, and Grand Retraite. Sometimes referred to as “the place that time forgot.” This unassuming area contains under 5000 people, or should I call them the
St. Pierre is an up-and-coming town. With a population of 16 000, you know you are in for a treat when you get there. What I wasn’t prepared for was how nice everyone is. Located in what I like to refer to as the heart of Mauritius, this central town is booming.
I walk around Shri Nagar, looking for a long-lost sugar mill tower of Sottise. Which, as it turns out, is visible from the main road, or Sottise Road! Um well.
Who knew such a big wood and furniture factory was actually based in Mauritius!
I spotted the owner from The Chinese Garden in Grand Baie doing some shopping in Super U so figured he must have his Work Access Permits for the restaurant.
